Citrulline or L Citrulline is a non-standard amino acid that is not normally present in protein. Citrulline is created in the body as an intermediate in the conversion of the amino acid ornithine to arginine in a metabolic pathway called the urea cycle. Citrulline is formed from ornithine and takes part in the synthesis of urea. It donates one of its nitrogen for the synthesis of urea.
Sources of citrulline: Rich sources of citrulline are meat, fish, eggs, milk, legumes and other foods which are rich in proteins.
